This condition is considered ingrown nail and forms onychia. Ingrown nail is when the nail plate edge penetrates into the lateral nail fold causing pain, abscess, and advanced granulation tissue formation. onychia is a suppurative lesion of tissue around and under the nail. Loose shoes should be worn to reduce lateral compression and lateral pruning of the nail. The nail should be prevented from being trimmed until it grows to the toe edge to prevent further formation of marginal spines. In the early stage of the disease, fungicides and small cotton swabs can be inserted under the nail edge to control infection. Warm water immersion should be performed twice a day. If the infection is serious, antibiotics should be used all over the body. Abscess can obviously be operated to open and drain pus. Some cases need to be pulled out.
