What are the common predisposing factors for hepatic encephalopathy?

Hepatic encephalopathy is induced by various types of cirrhosis, acute severe hepatitis, fulminant hepatitis, primary liver cancer, and portal-systemic shunt surgery. Hepatic encephalopathy can also be induced by excessive protein intake, electrolyte imbalance, constipation, hypokalemia, infection, etc.
