Cough with thick phlegm may be wind-cold or wind-heat.

In traditional Chinese medicine, wind-cold and wind-heat are two common exogenous causes. Wind-cold is usually caused by cold pathogen invasion, mostly related to wind-blowing and catching cold. Cough with phlegm, nasal obstruction, runny nose, body aches and other symptoms, sputum is generally clear or white. Wind-heat is usually caused by the invasion of wind-heat evil into the human body. Generally, it is related to factors such as excessive ambient temperature and thick clothing. It also has symptoms of thick sputum, but sputum is relatively thick and yellow. Some patients are also accompanied by symptoms such as fever and headache pain.
