CEA is a tumor marker that is first extracted from colon cancer and embryonic tissue. This reference value is generally normal depending on the method of examination or the testing institution. The main commonly used reference value range is less than 5 micrograms per liter. Generally speaking, if the CEA index is dozens or even hundreds of times higher than the upper limit of the reference value, it indicates malignant tumor, which may be confirmed by further imaging examination and other endoscopic examination. Some inflammatory diseases may also cause this index to rise slightly.
