Benign esophageal tumors are rare, accounting for only 1% of esophageal tumors. According to the origin of tumors, they are divided into three categories. The most common is leiomyoma, which comes from smooth muscle, accounting for 90%. The second is polyp, lipoma, fibroma and papilloma originating from mucosal layer, which is called intraluminal mucosal type. The third is hemangioma occurring in submucosal esophagus, which is a rare type of benign esophageal tumor.
