Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

1. Genetic

PCOS is related to heredity and has family aggregation. If a patient's first-degree relatives, such as mothers and sisters, suffer from PCOS, the risk of developing the disease will be higher than that of other populations.

2. Environmental factors: intrauterine

hyperandrogenic environment, excessive nutrition, continuous stimulation by organic pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and long-term use of anti-epileptic drugs may also cause PCOS.
