For patients with rectal cancer and anal cancer, the sphincter muscle and nerves around the anus are damaged by cancer. Patients may show defecation dysfunction causing defecation. Whether cancer or not, after rectal and anal surgery, many patients will show that the sphincter muscle of the anus is affected to varying degrees, resulting in defecation. Inflammation of the intestine can also cause anal incontinence, resulting in the inability to hold back stool. If the anal sphincter dysfunction is caused by a benign disease, the muscle function of the pelvic floor can be enhanced through levator ani training to reduce or alleviate the inability to hold back stool.
