Hepatitis B surface antigen generally appears 2-6 months after human infection with hepatitis B virus and is not infectious. It is generally present in saliva, blood, semen, milk and sweat of patients, and appears during acute hepatitis B virus infection. Therefore, it is also considered as a marker of hepatitis B virus infection.
