Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is a peptide hormone secreted by pituitary gland. TSH stimulates thyroid gland to secrete thyroid hormone and stimulate thyroid follicular cell growth. TSH secretion is regulated by hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis. TSH is the most sensitive index in thyroid function examination. Normal non-pregnant adults serum thyroid stimulating hormone, normal value is generally between 0.35-5.5mU/L, different hospitals use different examination methods, serum thyroid stimulating hormone level normal value slightly different. Female thyroid stimulating hormone level during pregnancy is generally required to be below 2.5-3.0mU/L, otherwise it will affect fetal intelligence development. Abnormal levels of serum thyrotropin can be primary to pituitary diseases such as pituitary adenomas, pituitary hyperplasia, etc., or secondary to thyroid dysfunction such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
