If phimosis is found in a six-year-old boy, surgery may be recommended to remove the excess prepuce, or special treatment may not be required for the time being. Surgical treatment may be effective to improve phimosis in boys before penile development. Surgery is generally recommended as early as possible, because phimosis may cause bacteria under the prepuce to not be completely removed, resulting in inflammation of the glans, or inflammation of the prepuce. Therefore, it is suggested that redundant foreskin should be surgically removed as soon as possible.
