Esophageal reflux refers to the reflux of stomach contents up to the esophagus.
Under normal circumstances, after food enters the stomach through the esophagus, the sphincter of the lower stomach will contract, which can prevent reflux of stomach contents. However, if the sphincter is relaxed or damaged, gastric acid and digestive fluids may flow back into the esophagus. This condition is called esophageal reflux. Generally, it is related to damaged anti-reflux structure, decreased esophageal clearance, reduced resistance of esophageal mucosa, etc., which can lead to burning sensation behind the sternum, upper abdominal pain, acid reflux and belching.
