What kind of disease is pulmonary bullae serious?

Building bridges to better health.
The severity of bullae depends on the severity of the disease.
Bullae are air sacs formed in lung tissue due to elevated pressure in the alveolar space, rupture of alveolar walls, and fusion of various causes. If bullae are solitary or few in number and small in diameter, the condition is usually not serious and the patient generally has no symptoms and does not require special treatment. However, bullae with large diameters or large numbers of bullae, especially in patients with chronic bronchitis or bronchial asthma, may be more severe. These bullae may compress normal lung tissue, leading to decreased lung function and, in the long run, respiratory failure. In severe cases, such as chronic bronchitis or acute attacks of bronchial asthma, shortness of breath and increased coughing may cause the bullae to rupture and form pneumothorax.
