What causes severe stomach pain?

Acute stomach pain may be caused by acute gastritis, gastric ulcer and cholecystitis.

1. Acute gastritis

is acute inflammation of gastrointestinal mucosa caused by various reasons. Patients with acute onset are prone to abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Severe stomach pain may be caused by acute gastritis.

2. Gastric ulcer

is caused by Helicobacter pylori, smoking, alcoholism and spicy food. Common symptoms are stomach burning pain, stomach distension, vomiting, etc., so severe stomach pain may be caused by gastric ulcer.

3. Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is caused by obstruction and infection caused by gallstones in most cases. Acute attacks may cause severe abdominal pain accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Severe stomach pain may also be caused by cholecystitis.
