Does osteochondroma need treatment?

Dedicated to your well-being.
Osteochondroma generally refers to osteochondromatosis. Whether osteochondromatosis needs treatment should be judged based on specific circumstances.
Osteochondromatosis is an autosomal dominant genetic disease, often accompanied by mutations and loss of the tumor suppressor genes EXT1 and EXT2. If the tumor is relatively small in size, there is no obvious discomfort, dysfunction, or tendency to malignant transformation, it can be temporarily untreated without affecting the appearance and normal life, and regular follow-up observation is enough. However, due to the large tumor volume, some patients may compress blood vessels and nerves, cause obvious joint dysfunction, or lead to joint deformity at the lesion site, and generally need surgery.
