Respiratory failure
is a serious disease that may endanger life if not treated in time. The severity of respiratory failure depends mainly on the following aspects:
1. Etiology: Respiratory failure varies in etiology and severity. For example, respiratory failure caused by pulmonary infection, acute respiratory distress syndrome, etc. may be more severe; respiratory failure caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc. may be relatively milder.
2. Basic health status of the patient: The better the patient's basic health, the stronger the tolerance to respiratory failure, the less severe the disease; conversely, the worse the patient's basic health, the weaker the tolerance to respiratory failure, the more severe the disease.
3. Severity of respiratory failure: The severity of respiratory failure can be assessed by arterial blood gas analysis. If the patient's arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) is 50mmHg, or severe acidosis (pH) is present
