Can shingles be transmitted to children?

Herpes zoster is a skin disease caused by varicella zoster virus infection. If a child has not been vaccinated against varicella or has never been infected with the virus, contact with the patient may cause varicella. If the child has a history of infection, contact with the patient generally does not cause infection.
