HCG is a glycoprotein secreted by the placenta of fertilized eggs. It has the function of maintaining corpus luteum and protecting fetus and inhibiting the immune rejection of fetus to placental tissue. It normally reaches its peak at 8 weeks of pregnancy and drops to the level of non-pregnancy within 1~3 weeks after delivery. The normal value is 0-3IU/L.
