What is status epilepticus?

Status epilepticus refers to a seizure lasting more than 30 minutes or frequent seizures, although there is an intermittent period, but the patient's consciousness can not be restored all the time, status epilepticus is a critical disease, due to sustained grand mal seizures, normal brain metabolism, changes in cerebral blood flow, brain tissue hypoxia, neuron degeneration necrosis, resulting in permanent brain damage. If not treated in time, can show brain edema, cerebral hernia, respiratory and circulatory system failure, and even directly lead to death, status epilepticus mortality rate as high as 10% to 40%, of which one-half of the patients with febrile convulsions are related, often due to infection, fever, drinking, trauma, excessive fatigue or sudden withdrawal of factors induced, if the patient shows a persistent state, family members should be sent to the hospital as soon as possible for emergency treatment.
