A sty is also called a stye. If a patient has a sty, it is mostly caused by staphylococcal infection, most commonly staphylococcal aureus infection. If the patient has an acute aseptic inflammation caused by blockage of the meibomian gland opening, it may also be secondary to a sty. If the patient has a sty and is accompanied by blepharitis, it may present as multiple lesions or repeated episodes of sty.
