What is xerosis?

Xerophthalmia is also commonly referred to as dry eye. Dry eye is caused by a decrease in the amount of tear film acting on the eye surface or a change in the quality and quantity of tear film. Some patients will show complications of trachoma. When the secretion of ocular mucin is reduced, the amount of tear film is normal but the quality is not right, and dry eye may appear. Therefore, there are many factors that cause dry eye.
