Acute mastitis is mainly caused by factors such as milk stasis and bacterial infection. If it is only breast pain caused by milk stasis, mastitis can heal itself after discharge of milk. If it is accompanied by bacterial infection, mastitis cannot heal itself. Antibiotics are needed to control infection. Surgical incision and drainage are needed for abscess formation.
