What is vesicoureteral reflux?

Restoring balance, one patient at a time.
Bladder ureteral reflux refers to the reverse flow of urine from the bladder to the ureter, which may be caused by prolonged urine retention, bladder stones, bladder tumors, etc.
1. Long-term urine retention Under
normal circumstances, there is an anti-reflux mechanism in the inner part of the ureter wall, which can prevent urine from flowing from the bladder to the ureter. If the bladder is held for a long time, the pressure in the bladder is too high, which may cause a small amount of urine in the bladder to flow back to the ureter.
2. Bladder tumor
When bladder tumor occurs, due to the tumor destroying the inner wall of the bladder and increasing the pressure in the bladder, vesico-ureteral reflux will occur.
3. Abnormal ureteral opening
If the ureter is opened in the bladder neck or posterior urethra at the lower part of the triangular area, vesico-ureteral reflux is also prone to occur.
