Nursing care of patients with indwelling urinary catheter

For patients with indwelling urinary catheter, it is recommended that diluted iodophor solution be used daily to clean the urinary catheter and external urethral orifice to remove secretions around it and reduce the chance of infection. It is recommended that the indwelling urinary catheter be clamped and opened regularly to ensure that the bladder functions normally during the urine storage period. Patients with indwelling urinary catheter should drink plenty of water and urinate more every day to prevent infection. The indwelling urinary catheter must be lower than the level of the bladder, so that there is no possibility of urine reflux. For patients with long-term indwelling catheter, it is suggested that the catheter needs to be replaced regularly, and the replacement time should be determined according to whether the catheter is blocked.
