What causes catheter pain?

Dedicated to healing, always.
Urinary pain during catheterization is a normal phenomenon. It is mainly caused by friction between the catheter and the mucous membrane in the urethra, which can cause mild irritation and damage to the urethra. However, most patients can tolerate it and the pain is not very severe. In some cases, the pain during catheterization is obvious, such as urethral stricture, prostatic hyperplasia blocking the urethra, and causing obstruction of the catheter during indwelling. In this case, when inserting the catheter, the pain will be more obvious. In addition, it is also seen in the urethra itself. If there is a urinary tract infection, the urethra is in a state of congestion and edema. When indwelling the catheter, it will cause more severe pain. There is also a case where the catheter selected is thicker. In this case, it will also produce a stronger stimulation to the urethra and show obvious pain.
