Mild anemia of pregnant women has no effect on the fetus. During pregnancy, anemia occurs due to increased blood volume and increased iron consumption in the body. Moderate to severe anemia can lead to insufficient oxygen supply in the placenta, resulting in intrauterine hypoxia and growth retardation.
