What is endometrial displacement?

Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium spreads outside the uterus. The ectopic endometrium is also active. During menstruation, the ectopic endometrium also shows bleeding as hormone levels change. Endometriosis occurs mostly in the pelvic organs. Most common is bilateral ovaries, which can form cysts due to bleeding during menstruation. The cysts are old chocolate-colored deposits of blood, also known as chocolate cysts. Endometriosis is characterized by progressive dysmenorrhea. If not treated effectively, repeated episodes of ectopic lesions irritate the pelvic fallopian tubes, causing distortion, narrowing or blockage, most of which leads to infertility.
