What does urethral diverticulum mean?

Urethral diverticulum refers to the cystic space around the urethra that communicates with the urethra. It is generally divided into congenital and acquired two types. Urethral diverticulum is common in female patients, mostly single, generally located between the urethra and the vagina.

The occurrence of urethral diverticulum is related to factors such as residual cells in the urethra, urethral stricture, urethral sulcus not fused, urethral trauma, urethral stones, and periurethral abscess. Small urethral diverticulum usually has no special symptoms. If the diverticulum is large, urethral masses will appear. The disease can be diagnosed by urography, urethroscopy, urine culture, etc.
