Does gout swell

Restoring balance, one patient at a time.
Gout may cause swelling.
Gout is an inflammatory disease caused by high uric acid levels in the body, which cause urate crystals to deposit in the joints. When these urate crystals irritate the synovium of the joints, it causes acute arthritis, characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the joints. Therefore, swelling is one of the common manifestations of gout attacks.
In addition to swelling, gout may be accompanied by other symptoms such as joint pain, fever, and redness. These symptoms usually occur suddenly at night or in the morning and last for days to weeks. If left untreated, gout may cause joint destruction, deformation, and even other complications such as kidney disease and cardiovascular disease.
