Newborn babies have a pit in the back of their heads.

Neonatal brain pit called fontanelle, divided into front fontanelle and rear fontanelle, is due to incomplete development of the head, as the baby grows will close. Rear fontanelle generally in eight weeks or so will gradually close, before fontanelle generally in the baby one and a half years old or so closed.
