The colon is located in the right iliac fossa and connected to the rectum at the third sacral vertebra. The colon is divided into four parts: transverse colon, ascending colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon. It wraps the small intestine in the posterior abdominal wall. The colon has the function of digesting food, assisting defecation, and secreting alkaline fluid, which protects the intestinal mucosa.
