Trichiasis is caused by the abnormal growth direction of eyelashes, which can cause ocular congestion, conjunctivitis and corneal epithelial detachment. It can be treated by extraction, electrolysis and freezing, or by microsurgical hair follicle removal and orbicularis oculi muscle shortening.
