What is the difference between syphilis and gonorrhea?

Syphilis is caused by infection with Treponema pallidum, which causes genital and skin lesions. Gonorrhea is caused by infection with gonococcus, which causes genital and urinary lesions. Syphilis needs to be treated with penicillin, while gonorrhea needs to be treated with cephalosporins.
