Classification of aortic dissection

Aortic dissection can be divided into three types. Type I refers to the intimal break in the ascending aorta and extends beyond the aortic arch and abdominal aorta. Type II refers to the intimal break in the ascending aorta and extends only to the ascending aorta. Type III refers to the intimal break in the isthmus of the descending aorta and has involved the descending aorta and abdominal aorta.
