What does white matter thinning mean?

The concept of white matter thinning is mainly manifested in brain MRI examination reports. It is a demyelinating disease of nerve conduction fibers caused by diffuse cerebral ischemia. It occurs mostly in the elderly, with an incidence of more than 50%. It is more common in vascular dementia, Alzheimer's disease, subcortical arteriosclerous encephalopathy, etc., and even in some normal elderly people. The main manifestations are progressive dementia, decreased thinking ability, slow reaction, cognitive decline, sometimes clear and sometimes confused, memory decline, etc. At present, there is no specific drug to cure this disease, only symptomatic treatment such as improving microcirculation and nourishing nerves can be given.
