How long does severe asphyxia lead to cerebral palsy?

Your health, my mission. Your recovery, my joy.
Brain tissue oxygen consumption accounts for 20% to 30% of total body oxygen consumption. Brain energy source mainly depends on aerobic metabolism of sugar, and there is almost no energy storage. Therefore, brain tissue is very sensitive to ischemic and hypoxic damage. If the blood supply to the whole brain tissue is completely interrupted for 6 seconds, the patient will show loss of consciousness; spontaneous brain electrical activity will disappear in 10 seconds; and the most vulnerable neurons will show irreversible damage in 5 minutes. 10 to 20 minutes, extensive selective neuronal necrosis in the cerebral cortex. Thus, severe asphyxia can occur within five minutes. Cerebral palsy is characterized by congenital motor disorders and postural abnormalities, including spastic diplegia, athetosis and other pyramidal and extrapyramidal symptoms, which can be accompanied by varying degrees of mental retardation, speech disorders and seizures.
