What is cerebral effusion?

Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear fluid that fills the subarachnoid space between the skull and cerebral cortex, or between the arachnoid and pia mater. Its main function is to mechanically buffer the cerebral cortex. Cerebrospinal fluid exists in the cerebral ventricles and spinal cord. Clinically, obstruction and malabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid circulation are more common. Excessive secretion is rare. Generalized cerebral effusion includes subarachnoid effusion, subdural effusion, etc.
