A patient presenting with epidemic meningitis may show a mild increase in body temperature, accompanied by mild headache and sore throat symptoms in the upper respiratory tract, and a small number of bleeding spots on the skin. Meningeal irritation may also be associated. If the symptoms continue to worsen, the patient may show chills, high fever, accompanied by severe headache, muscle soreness, affecting the gastrointestinal tract, and thus show symptoms of loss of appetite and depression. Some patients also show joint pain, splenomegaly, obvious petechiae and bruising on the skin surface, headache, severe vomiting, mania, elevated blood pressure and slow pulse. In addition, normal mood and personality can be affected, and mental changes such as arrogance, temper tantrums, and general convulsions can be shown.
