Paronychia is an inflammatory reaction caused by an infection of the skin surrounding the nail. It usually presents with redness, pain, and purulence. Patients can be treated with antifungal drugs and anti-inflammatory ointments, and should wear loose shoes and socks. Do not excessively cut your toenails.
