Causes of mild white matter demyelination

Building bridges to better health.
White matter demyelination is not a clinical diagnosis, but a term shown in the report when doing MRI. There are several possibilities for this situation, as follows: 1. Almost all elderly people will show such a situation. White matter demyelination is the destruction of mature normal myelin phospholipids, which also shows white matter demyelination in imaging. Age, aging and other factors can cause physiological white matter demyelination. Mild white matter demyelination is usually asymptomatic and does not require treatment. Some clinically symptomatic white matter demyelination is often associated with neurological damage. If it is only dizziness, headache, and confusion, this relatively mild imaging white matter demyelination may be associated with arteriosclerosis, and patients should be treated for secondary prevention. 2. Another more severe type of white matter demyelination may be caused by degenerative diseases of the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, optic neuromylitis, progressive multifocal white matter disease, and corpus callosum degeneration. Many autoimmune, infectious, toxic, and degenerative factors may cause white matter demyelination and require treatment for different causes.
