Neuroedema is a condition that causes swelling of the subcutaneous tissue. Angioneurotic edema patients may exhibit swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, scalp, oral mucosa, tongue, throat, or genitals. Angioneurotic edema is often accompanied by rubella, which we call urticaria. Rubella and angioneurotic edema both involve swelling, but in angioneurotic edema the swelling is deeper than rubella and may not be accompanied by itching. Angioneurotic edema can be caused by a variety of factors such as drugs, insect bites, food, especially eggs, fish, shellfish, nuts and fruits, and contact with certain substances such as plants, animal saliva or latex, and injection allergies.
