What is esophageal wall stratification?

Building a healthier future, together.
The esophageal wall is mainly divided into four layers, from the inside to the outside are the mucosa, submucosa, muscularis and adventitia.
1. The mucosa
layer is located in the innermost part of the esophagus and has a smooth surface. It mainly protects the esophagus.
2. The submucosa
layer is located between the mucosa layer and the muscularis layer. It is composed of loose connective tissue and contains large blood vessels, nerves, lymphatic vessels and esophageal glands.
3. The muscularis
layer is divided into two layers: the inner ring and the outer longitudinal layer, with elastic fibers sandwiched in the middle.
4. The
adventitia is also composed of loose connective tissue and rich in blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves.
