Precautions before Helicobacter pylori test

1. Stop taking antacids

at least one week before the H. pylori test, including proton pump inhibitors and H2 receptor antagonists such as omeprazole and ranitidine. These drugs reduce acid secretion and may affect the accuracy of the test results.

2. Do not take antibiotics. Do not take antibiotics

for a period of time before the H. pylori test, because antibiotics may kill H. pylori and cause false negative test results.

3. Fasting

6-8 hours before the H. pylori test to ensure that there is no food in the stomach to interfere with the test results.
