Esophagus usually turns cancerous in 5 to 10 years, but cancer may not occur.

If the esophagus is stimulated by inflammatory substances for a long time or long-term gastroesophageal reflux, smoking, excessive drinking and other factors, it may cause esophageal mucosa to be damaged to varying degrees. If the patient does not actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment, as the disease progresses, cancer cells may penetrate the damaged esophageal mucosa and infiltrate into the deep tissues of the esophageal wall in 5 to 10 years, and further invade the lymph nodes around the esophagus. However, for normal esophagus, there is no damage and stimulation at ordinary times, and cancer generally does not occur.
