What are the sequela of cholecystectomy?

Dedicated to your healing journey.
Cholecystectomy surgery sequelae include diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, fatty stool, etc., as follows:
1. Diarrhea
Because the gallbladder plays a role in storing and concentrating bile during digestion, bile is discharged directly into the intestine after cholecystectomy, sometimes leading to diarrhea symptoms, but usually improves within weeks to months after surgery.
2. Abdominal discomfort
In a few weeks after surgery, patients may experience abdominal discomfort, such as flatulence, abdominal distension or abdominal pain. The above symptoms are usually temporary and will gradually ease with recovery.
3. Fatty stool
bile is used to help digest fat. After cholecystectomy, bile discharge may no longer be concentrated as before, which may lead to incomplete fat digestion and large amount of undigested fat discharged.
