What is ischemic colitis?

Ischemic colitis is an inflammatory disease caused by insufficient blood supply to the colon.

Ischemic colitis may be associated with arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, vasospasm, etc., and may cause tissue damage and inflammation due to local intestinal blood flow disorders, which may cause insufficient oxygen and nutrients to the colon tissue. The disease usually presents with abdominal pain, diarrhea, hematochezia, weight loss, and severe complications such as colon tissue necrosis and perforation.

A colonoscopy, tissue biopsy, and other related laboratory tests are usually required to confirm ischemic colitis. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended that patients seek medical attention.
