Why is there a bone protruding from the back of your head?

Your health, my mission. Your recovery, my joy.
A prominent bone in the back of the head may be a normal structure, or it may be caused by abnormal hyperplasia, sebaceous cyst, tumor, etc.
1. Normal structure
If the median line of the back of the head protrudes, it should be considered as an external occipital tuberosity. It belongs to normal anatomical structure, so there is no need to worry too much.
2. Abnormal hyperplasia
If it is unilateral protrusion of the back of the head, it should be considered as local periosteum and bone hyperplasia caused by trauma.
3. Sebaceous cyst
If soft tissue degeneration occurs, such as sebaceous cyst, etc., it may also be manifested as a prominent piece of the back of the head.
4. Tumor
tumors include benign tumors of the brain, distant bone metastases, etc., which may lead to bulging of the back of the head.
