How to determine the effectiveness of targeted drugs

Your well-being is my top priority.
Generally, the effectiveness of targeted drugs can be judged by imaging examination, symptom improvement, tumor marker detection, survival extension, etc. 1. Imaging examination Regular imaging examinations such as CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are performed to observe changes in tumor size and number. If the tumor significantly shrinks or even disappears, or the tumor progression is significantly delayed, this is usually an important indicator of the effectiveness of the targeted drug. For example, the originally large tumor gradually shrinks after the drug, indicating that the drug is working and inhibiting the growth of the tumor. 2. Symptom improvement Changes in the patient's own symptoms are also important references. If the patient's symptoms such as pain, dyspnea, cough, etc. are significantly reduced or disappeared, this may mean that the targeted drug has played an effect. For example, the pain caused by tumor compression is greatly relieved after medication, so that the patient's quality of life has been improved. 3. Tumor marker detection Changes in the levels of some specific tumor markers are also suggestive. When the targeted drug is effective, the corresponding tumor marker value may decrease. However, it should be noted that this is only an auxiliary judgment, and it is not possible to determine the drug effect solely by relying on tumor markers, because its value may be affected by many factors. 4. The overall survival and progression-free survival of patients with prolonged survival are key indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of targeted drugs. If the survival time of the patient is significantly longer than expected after the use of the targeted drug, and the time without progression of the disease is also increased, it can indicate that the drug plays a positive role to a certain extent. To determine whether the targeted drug is effective, the doctor needs to conduct a comprehensive analysis and evaluation according to the specific situation.
