Treatment of Vertebral Compression Fracture

Healing with hope, guiding with care.
The treatment of vertebral compression fractures mainly includes conservative treatment, surgical treatment, rehabilitation treatment, etc. 1. Conservative treatment For mild vertebral compression fractures, especially for elderly patients, conservative treatment can be selected when their physical condition is not suitable for surgery. It includes bed rest, which usually takes several weeks to reduce the pressure on the vertebral body and promote fracture healing; Wearing braces, such as waist circumference, can provide some support and protection to help patients with early activities; medication, such as pain relief drugs, anti-osteoporosis drugs to improve bone quality, etc. 2. Surgical treatment If the degree of vertebral compression is severe, affecting spinal stability, or accompanied by nerve compression symptoms, surgery should be considered. Surgical procedures include percutaneous vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty, which can strengthen the vertebral body by injecting bone cement and other materials into the vertebral body, relieve pain, and allow early mobilization; in more severe cases, open reduction and internal fixation may be required to restore normal alignment and stability of the spine. 3. Rehabilitation Regardless of the treatment option selected, rehabilitation is very important. Rehabilitation training should be started early after treatment, including active limb movement and back muscle exercise, which helps prevent complications caused by long-term bed rest, such as lung infection, deep vein thrombosis, etc., while enhancing spinal stability and muscle strength, promoting functional recovery. Regular review should be paid to evaluate fracture healing and spinal functional status, so as to adjust treatment and rehabilitation programs in time.
Patients should also pay attention to strengthening nutrition during treatment and ensure adequate sleep to promote physical recovery.
