Is keratoconus a serious illness?

Healing with compassion, caring with dedication.
Keratoconus
is an eye disease characterized by central or paracentral dilation and tapering forward. It can lead to highly irregular myopia and astigmatism, which seriously affects the patient's vision. Although keratoconus itself is not life-threatening, in severe cases, it may lead to severe vision loss, even blindness, which brings great inconvenience and difficulty to the patient's life and work.
However, in the early stage of the disease, it is not a serious disease by wearing glasses and rigid contact lenses in time. The development of keratoconus can be controlled by corneal collagen crosslinking surgery, and a good prognosis can be obtained. However, if the disease continues to worsen, it may belong to a larger disease.
Therefore, for keratoconus patients, early detection and timely treatment is very important.
