Cervical squamization is a process in which the columnar epithelium of the cervix is replaced by squamous epithelium.
Squamization is usually a physiological phenomenon that is a manifestation of long-term stimulation or repair of the cervix. During a woman's life, the cervical epithelium undergoes different types of changes. Fluctuations in hormone levels may affect the transformation of the cervical epithelium. For example, under the action of estrogen, the columnar epithelium may be inverted, and then squamization may occur. In
addition, chronic cervical inflammation is one of the common causes of squamization. Inflammation can promote changes in epithelial cells. In general, simple cervical squamization does not require special treatment, but the body needs regular gynecological examination and cervical cancer screening. This is because although it is not a malignant disease itself, it may exist at the same time as other cervical diseases.
